Dan is a farmer. If it can be built, raised, or repaired, Dan is the one who'll do it. Farming is that kind of job, and Dan is a damn good farmer.
Farming can be dangerous, and Dan's lungs can attest to that. Miraculously, a donor has helped. On February 1, Dan woke up with new lungs. He's a strong man, he'll do all he can to honor that donor, heal and get back to chores.
It's a long process: a month in a hospital that is hours from home, another month near that hospital with 24/7 support, months more of continued monitoring. Hotels, travel, the necessities that insurance doesn't cover, it adds up.
