. plot:
“You HATE GAY but you LOVE A BOY.
If I obey, you will cherish me like a treasure. If I'm not obedient, you hit me, you chase me away... What kind of love is this?”
“Be good, don't cry anymore. Is it okay if I don't love you anymore? Don't love anymore”
Minh Quan, after failing to confess his love, met Thanh Tu, a person who had just broken up with his lover. In a drunken state, he proposed to him with a ring worth five hundred million dong. Also from this incident, an invisible thread tied the fates of two people who were opposites in both background and personality to each other.
Through Quan's introduction, Tu worked at his restaurant. Through countless misunderstandings, both crying and laughing, their relationship became closer. Quan sees Tu as a younger brother and keeps him by his side. Tu is both an employee at the restaurant and a private chef who dedicatedly takes care of Quan's meals. The storm came when Tu received a death notice from the angel of death. Confiding in his close friend - Xuan, before leaving he wanted to let the person he loved know his feelings.
And that day, when Tu said the three words "I like you", Quan looked at him with cold, scary eyes, along with words that cut into his heart like a knife. Quan took off his mask of kindness and told Tu that from beginning to end he was only using him for his own business purposes. After that, Tu asked Quan to let him return to his hometown to be with his family in the last days of his life. Right now, his father announced that he would marry the daughter of the family's close neighbor. Before this matter could be resolved, Tu heard the manager say the wrong medical records. He immediately returned to Saigon. As soon as he arrived in the living room, he saw Quan waiting for him. Quan thought Tu was a liar, a cheater, and was sent to approach him. Tu panicked and ran away. But there were Quan's eyes and ears everywhere and then he was arrested a second time for stealing money, and there was enough physical evidence. This was a trick devised by Quan as a punishment for a traitor...
Tu was afraid that his family would know, so he had no choice but to ask for help from Quan and instead of helping Tu, Quan handled everything like an exchange... Tu's fate is truly a beggar's fate. After taking his younger brother Son to the city, on the way back, Tu's father had an accident. The first surgery left the whole family with nothing. He had to borrow money from loan sharks. During the second surgery, when the doctor discovered that Tu's father had acute liver failure, Quan was the last hope. Last time, Tu signed a false debt paper to get out of prison, this time he signed a paper to sell himself to save his father. Perhaps Tu will never be able to escape Quan's hands in this life.
The two of them were together morning and night, even though on the surface Quan showed hate, even beat and humiliated Tu, but he could not deny that he was moved by Tu's caring and gentle actions towards him. Quan has been in love with Tu. Waiting for love to blossom between the two of them, Quan's first love returned and brought with him many problems, when Quan's brother - Minh Han followed his mother's advice and returned to help with the business. Minh Han was ex-lover of Hieu and Trung Anh is Minh Han's current lover. Hieu's appearance brings both difficulties and challenges for Quan and Tu's feelings to become more mature.
A Note from the Director
This is a project I have cherished for nearly 14–15 years. The script has been revised more than five times — from when I was just a 20-year-old young man until now, at the age of 34–35. It is the biggest, most ambitious project I have ever dared to dream of.
Back in 2018, I released a short film version, which gained remarkable recognition. Since then, I have always longed for the day when The Lost Ring could return to the audience as a complete, carefully produced series. This time, I simply hope the long-form version will receive the same love and support from the viewers.
Unlike my lighter, healing series, The Lost Ring delves into the complexity of human emotions — love intertwined with pain, possession, and redemption. It is not only a Boyslove romance, but also a psychological journey about scars, family expectations, and the struggle to define what true love truly means.
For me, this project is an opportunity to explore the darker corners of love and to show that even in suffering, there can still be moments of tenderness, growth, and healing.
