Keep Dangar Island Bowling Club Cool!
Dangar Island Bowling Club is a tiny non-profit sports club, bar/restaurant and music venue in a serene water access only location on the lower Hawkesbury River. This beloved institution has served the community on the island and surrounding river settlements since the 1950's. The club is managed by a board of volunteers with a small roster of local staff making sure the venue is open four days a week all year round. The club has managed to survive all these years on extremely frugal resources and has at all times relied on the generosity and kindness of its patrons to continue to operate.
It became apparent at the beginning of Summer that the air conditioning in the venue had finally stopped being effective. On very hot days, it is almost unbearably warm inside the Club and with the temperature in the kitchen always several degrees higher than the main room. An examination by an A/C technician proved our worst fears -
that both AC units need replacing.
We have received a quote to have both split systems replaced with suitable units and make some minor improvements to help the kitchen keep cooler.
The club simply doesn't have the resources to make these kind of improvements and so we are calling out to all our members, friends, regular guests and mainland visitors to help us raise the $6000 required to help keep our lovely little club cooler in Summer and warmer in Winter.
This will certainly help the Club's ongoing survival as it will provide a chilled haven on those days where the mercury tops 30°, meaning increased bar and restaurant trade through the warmer months.
