Do You Want to Build a Playground?

In 2009 I vacationed on the Island of Nevis, the smaller of the two Caribbean islands comprising the nation of Saint Kitts.

We were given Frisbees to hand out to the kids on the island after school by my soon-to be father in law. I was shocked that so many of the kids had no idea what a Frisbee was. After seeing the joy that the Frisbees brought to the faces of these children, I knew I needed to do more for them.
We decided to visit the VOJN Primary School and ask if there was any way I could help them. During the tour of the school, classrooms and the grounds, I realized that as happy as these kids were, they had very little in terms of school supplies, books, and toys. In fact, they had no playground at all!

I then realized that I needed and wanted to start giving gifts to the kids at the Violet O. Jeffers Nicholls Primary School.
The next summer, 2010, I sent boxes of school supplies, including pencils, paper, crayons, colored pencils, posters, notebooks, folders, pens and other learning aids.

When I had the chance to visit the school again I couldn’t go empty handed. We brought gift bags for each child that included friendship bracelets, stickers and fruit snacks. We went classroom to classroom and gave them out and talked to the kids. The children were thrilled.
Since then I has been sending a variety of supplies to the kids at the VOJN Primary School. Including medical supplies, school supplies, sports equipment and clothing.
After seeing the joy that these small things have inspired in these children’s lives I decided to do something BIG! I decided that these children need a playground to get exercise and exert energy during the school day. They needed a place to have fun and be safe. So, in 2015 I made the decison that somehow, I was going to give these children a mch needed playground. That is how “Do You Want to Build a Playground?” began.
Phase 1 of this generous endeavor has been accomplished and now the children have 2 seesaws and 4 swings, but these kids deserve so much more!

Please join us for Phase 2 of “Do you want to build a playground?”
What is Phase 2 of “Do you want to build a playground?”
For Phase 2 we would like to purchase a jungle gym for the children and supply the school with some basic needs.
· Soap Dispensers
· Bookshelves
· Flood lights
With your help me can strengthen the education of these children and also make sure that they have some fun!
