Nevin's Official Memorial Fund

Donation protected

On Sunday, September 8th,  our family suffered a terrible tragedy: my fifteen year-old nephew Nevin was found in his room unconscious and not breathing by his little brother. Thankfully, because of their expertise, the paramedics were able to restart his heart. In the following week Nevin saw countless doctors and a team of wonderful nurses at Primary Children’s hospital. After much time with the doctor and countless medical tests, we were informed that Nevin would not be returning home – because of the lack of oxygen to his brain, Nevin was declared brain dead, and his parents were forced to make a decision which no parent should ever have to make: to take their child off life support.

We do not want our brilliant boy to live like this any longer, but we thought that if we could help others by donating Nevin’s organs, we would be honoring him by doing so. You see, Nevin wanted to make the world a better place, and in many ways he did -- love and compassion were his language, especially during tough times. He was always a beacon of kindness to others and every day with him was a gift. We hope that his body will help make a few people’s lives better and that they will be able to hug their loved ones once again; we hope that his death may now foster life.

It is with a heavy heart that I tell you about the wonderful kid that he was: Nevin was a bright young man who was enrolled in college level classes and participated in the science Olympiad three years in a row. He loved the earth and dreamt of being an environmental lawyer, often joking about how he would save the world one pro-bono case at a time. Nevin loved his family above all else, most weekends choosing to stay home to be with his brothers to play board games or watch the newest Avengers movie. He did silly things like dance in the kitchen to Frank Sinatra and pace around the house when he felt passionately about something. He had a kind heart and was full of love

They say it takes a village to raise a child, and right now we need the support of our communities; Nicole was in the process of switching jobs when this tragedy struck, and there are mounting medical expenses which are not covered by insurance. We must do anything we can to lessen her burden because Nicole has three other amazing sons who deserve a happy life; her focus must be on taking care of herself and her children, not the stress of financial burden.  For this reason I am raising money for medical and funeral costs that will occur over the next several days.

I hope that with your help we can help lay this angel to rest. Thank you for all that you have done and the love that you have shared with our family.

A memorial is planned but time and location to be determined.
