Hi, my name is Richard Blackman, and I'm fundraising for funeral expenses for my younger brother Neville who recently suddenly passed away in his sleep.
Neville was a creative and diverse individual, always trying new things to master. He played and excelled at hockey, soccer, tennis, wrestling and football; studied graphic design at Ryerson University and urban planning at Mohawk College.
His greatest passion was music where he really was able to fully express himself. He was a member of the CCA steel band during high school, he created the Loran Recordings label to sell his songs.
Nev's DJing career started in the early 90"s when Malik X and James St Bass invited Neville to their respective radio shows to showcase his songs and DJ skills.
Jungle PHD is revered as one of the first DJ's to present what we know and love as jungle in Toronto at a time when it was new and fresh and creative and mystical. His sound was formative for many of us and carved out a path through underground music that we are still on today.
He DJ'ed at multiple Drum 'n Bass parties that were the happiest days of his life. He was not only my brother, he was my best friend. He was taken too early from us, and I take solace that now he's at peace, probably singing and dancing to the music of the universe.
Proceeds will go to the family for funeral expenses, and any funds left over will be donated to non-profit organizations that helped Neville such as the Scott Mission and Portland Place.
A big thank you from the Blackman family
