Never Giving Up on You Rich Young

Not sure that there is enough room here for Rich's history, but I will try to include as much detail as possible.  Cliff notes version:  a year ago today, Rich was traveling for work and enjoying his kids and grandkids, hiking and biking.  Over the next few months, he was diagnosed with sudden dual organ failure - heart and liver. His family worked tirelessly to get him transferred fo Upenn, where, after several weeks of procedures and  invasive tests, he was discharged and put on Hospice with 2-4 weeks to live.   We had his mom and siblings fly in as his prpognosis was grim, to say the least.. We were told that he had started the "death process" and he didn't have much time.  Fast forward, we got him into NYU and he had and LVAD inserted in October 2017 and due to some complications, a pacemaker and defibrallator in December of 2017.  Since then, he has had additional complications including but not limited to a recent stroke which is a common side effect of LVADs.  Fast forward again: he needs a heart transplant ASAP.  NYU Transplant Committee has rejected his case because they just opened and feel that he has better a chance at Tampa General who does over 50 heart transplants a year.  So, he will be moving to Tampa in the next month, God willing, and his 20 year old son, Colin, has agreed be his primary caregiver. So much for a 20 year old to handle, but thats a whole story in and of itself.  Since Rich is now on disability, we want to ensure that basic living costs aren't an additional stress to him or his family.  We aren't anticipating needing much - just rent, food, gas, etc. for their time in Tampa.  Rich will need to be there for a year post-transplant so we are just trying to plan ahead. We have not even thought about uncovered medical costs and now is not the time to worry about that.  You can bet that we will always pay it forward and do the same for any of you in need. I am not sharing this with Rich just yet, so keep it between us! Love you all as always and forever@
