Adopt a Nevada Mock Trial Attorney

Hi, my name is Marissa Coleman and I'm the President of the University of Nevada, Reno's Mock Trial team.

Mock Trial is an academic simulation of a real trial. At the beginning of the year, students are given a case and spend the next few months dissecting it. We use real legal precedents and techniques to form arguments, develop examinations and then compete against other schools.

We are competing in two competitions this year, and bringing two squads to each: the Rebel-Trojan Invitationals, hosted by USC and UNLV in Las Vegas this January, and the AMTA Regionals in Tempe the next month. As a new team, we have been learning as we go along. We have an amazing advisor and two fantastic teams, but we are developing the infrastructure and connections we need to be able to support the team. This is where your help will come in!

My teammates and I have dedicated serious time and effort to this activity. Most students spend the same amount of time in Mock Trial each week as they would a 4 credit class, not including non-scheduled practices and working on their assignments. We don't do this for credit, but for the valuable public speaking practice, network-building and the hopes of bringing a trophy back to the school.

We want to make sure Mock Trial is as accessible to the University's student body as possible. Without sponsorships, every student would have to pay over $250 to participate. Through our Student Government, we've been able to cover most of our competition fees so far. By Adopting an Attorney (or donating whatever you can!), you will allow us to spend more time practicing and less time trying to raise more money.

The money will go to:
- Competition materials (stopwatches, binders, legal pads, etc.) [~$125.73]
- Team meals during both tournaments [~$469.54]
- Housing in Tempe, Arizona for Regionals [~$820]
- Transportation [~$682.30]

The closer we get to our goal, the less cost we'll have to divide among the team. All of our members are full-time students, and the majority of them work, so any help we can get would make a world of difference.

Any money left over, or raised over the goal, will go towards next year's team.

Words can't convey how thankful we are to the community for the help they've given us so far. We can also accept donation of goods (like pens, legal pads, sheet protectors, etc.), cash and check. All money will be withdrawn and immediately put into our bank account with the University of Nevada's ASUN Department of Clubs and Organizations.

Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
