I'm Raile, a mixed-race disabled trans man. And that handsome dog is Corsair! He's my service dog in training, and though he's been owner-trained so far, this year he's going off to get some specialised training for more intensive mobility tasks like forward momentum pulling.
In order for this to happen, however, he must be neutered, and he needs to have some sebaceous cysts removed.
The neuter is needed for liability reasons, as well as for his own safety (he has been attacked by another dog before, and unaltered male dogs can attract unwanted attention from other dogs.)
Sebaceous cysts are generally benign, but the ones to be removed are in places that make his work gear uncomfortable or even painful. One is on his right fore where his boots are secured. The other is on his shoulder, where the mobility harness will rest. For obvious reasons, these need to GO.
The quote from our vet for all of this is roughly 1.4k USD. I will be putting my entire tax return towards this, but that still leaves at least half of the cost! And the sooner these procedures are done, the better. He's scheduled to go out there in June, but we want him to have NO tenderness or sensitivity on the cyst removal sites. At all.
So, rather than trying to make this work by saving 20 bucks here and there off my.... uh, extremely dismal SSI check, I'm crowd funding. There is a SMALL chance that the goal will exceed the cost of the surgery, in which case (for full transparency) the remainder will go towards affording his proper pulling harness. Which is NOT cheap, but not quite as time sensitive.
The good news is that this should be the last time I need to crowd fund any part of his service dog journey! That's crazy. I can't believe we've come so far.
Thank you,
Raile + Corsair
