Neurosurgery and Hospitalization Expenses
Donation protected
Hi. On 2/22/22, my Mom had a seizure. She actually thought she was having a stroke. When the ER doctor came into the room with results, she told my parents she didn’t find any evidence of a stroke. As my parents broke out in smiles and huge sighs of relief, she quickly followed with “But I don’t have good news.”
They found a tumor in her lung and what appeared to be two tumors in her brain, one on each side: undiagnosed lung cancer with metastases. After almost two days in the ER, she was finally accepted for transfer to Methodist Stone Oak Hospital in San Antonio.
There were three tumors in her head.
On 3/1/22, Dr. Bogaev and his team were able to remove the two large tumors in her right frontal lobe. They left the smaller one in her left parietal lobe. She had several rough days but we were finally able to get her home on Sunday, 3/6/22.
My mom has traditional Medicare. That means that my parents are facing a patient responsibility of potentially 20% of her hospitalization costs. They will engage all measures to try to minimize the bill any way they can but they are both retired. They simply do not have the resources to cover these astronomical costs. And they will be astronomical.
My parents are so grateful to all of the teams involved in the excellent care she received at both Peterson Regional Medical Center and Methodist Stone Oak. They want to pay their bills.
My parents have never asked for help. So I am asking for them. And I am not ashamed.
This surgery gave my dad, my brothers, her grandchildren, and me another year or two with her. It has given her time to be able to meet her new great-grandbaby for the first time.
Time is finite and is our most valuable resource. More time with her is well worth the sting of my pride. Please donate and share if you can.
