My daughter, Christina, was raised in diverse home. She was brought up, for the most part, in a single-parent home of an Armenian mother and 2 aunts who have all pursued and achieved their dreams. Our entire family places great emphasis on educational attainment. Educational pursuit was strongly encouraged as a way forward despite circumstances, whatever they may be. If I may say, my child is a brilliant student who is currently enrolled in a college in Pennsylvania and was accepted into a study program abroad at Lancaster University in Lancaster, England. She is most excited about the opportunity because Lancaster University has a laboratory dedicated to researching the cognition of social interaction -- the way that people process others’ perspectives at various ages, cultures, and contexts. Due to the small size and location of her current institution, her ability to observe and study a variety of cultural backgrounds is minimal. Attending a top ten university in the United Kingdom would offer her a rigorous academic experience and research opportunities in social anthropology in social and academic settings.
Christina is very excited to have an opportunity to begin coursework that is specific to her areas of interest, and believes that the experience will provide a great deal of professional direction. She believes that such direction could stem from classes that aren’t offered at her small college like: “Prozac Nation: Human Psychopharmacology”, “Sexual Criminology”, “Global Cinema”, and “Current Directions in Social Psychology”. These courses, along with the traveling she would do, would provide cultural literacy that would be beneficial as a social anthropologist or relationship counselor, which are two career paths she is considering.
Christina must raise, earn, and pay $12,000 to attend this program. This factors in transportation expenses, food, necessities, and the tuition itself. She has worked hard to lighten my financial burden as a single mom. I want so badly to help her reach this goal. Unfortunately, due to the annual cost of pursuing her own degree, the expense of the study abroad is Greater then our family cant afford alone. We believe that it takes a village and we are asking ours for help now. Any amount that you can assist Christina with is greatly appreciated! She is a serious student and values her education deeply,
Thank you so much for your consideration to help Christina. Feel free to share this link!
