HELP US HELP NESTOR!
Working in animal rescue is rewarding, fulfilling, and it undeniably brings a lot of joy. It can also be overwhelming, draining, and sometimes downright traumatic.
We hope that the story we are about to share with you can eventually be an inspiring one, and we apologise for the slightly graphic story and images.
We'd like to introduce you to Nestor. Nestor was a homeless Belgian Shepherd that had been scavenging for food on the outskirts of Puerto Vallarta. Unfortunately the story so far is not an uncommon one, but what makes Nestor’s a little bit different is that due to a horrific injury, he only has 3 legs.
We don't know exactly what happened to Nestor; it could have been a car accident, it could have been an animal trap, or human abuse of some kind. Sadly the possibilities are almost endless. What we do know is that this is a fairly recent injury because the wound on Nestors' stump is still completely open, exposing his bone pipe and clearly making him uncomfortable. Not only is Nestor up against possible infection in the wound on his stump, but since he is a pretty big dog and is trying to adjust to this recent injury, as we watch him hobble and hop around we can see that a lot of strain is being put on his back, hips, and other legs.
Nestor has an absolutely beautiful temperament! He is respectful of our other dogs and extremely loving and cuddly with our humans. He knows that he is safe and that we have his best interests at heart so he lets us administer his medications and clean his wounds twice a day with no complaints whatsoever. He is truly a testament to doggy resilience - his spirits are up despite being in pain and probably very confused about how to orient himself with respect to his new limitations. He wants to run and play but with the immense strain on his back and hips of hobbling around he frequently falls or just plain lays down from exhaustion. It is heartbreaking.
We rushed Nestor straight to the vet after picking him up, and we all agree that he is a great candidate for a prosthetic limb. We would absolutely love to be able to help him get the prosthetic he desperately needs, but while caring for many many other dogs the costs are simply too high for our non profit dog rescue!
When we heard about Nestor we knew we couldn't tackle this project alone, so we are once again teaming up with our wonderful friends and fellow non profit dog rescue here in Puerto Vallarta: MexPup.
We need your help to raise money towards the cost of:
Visits and consultations with doctors and prosthetic specialists Est. cost $600-$850
Prosthetic and shipment to Mexico Est. Cost- $1800- $2650
Every penny helps, and if you are not in a position to donate, we would very much appreciate you helping us spread the word so that we can vastly improve Nestor's quality of life and eventually find his forever family.
Please donate here, and you can also find us at www.lasanimasdogrescue.org or alternatively to donate directly to MexPup Canada Animal Rescue Society please visit www.mexpup.com to find a link to their PayPal or E-transfer to [email redacted].
As always, thank you so much for your support.
