20th of May 2021,
I had just woken up and was making my way to the kitchen, Nessie was standing in the doorway when my brother had said something odd, "The dog just fell over standing up". I quickly looked at Nessie watched as she fell started to fall over, I quickly ran to catch her before she hit the floor.
We immediately started calling every vet we could possibly find and carried Nessie into the car. Both of her front legs had become paralyzed and she needed immediate medical attention. Watching Nessie being gurneyed into the building was one of the worst experiences of my life.
We spent the rest of the day in the hospital parking lot waiting for phone calls and scheduling blood work and x-rays. The x-rays and blood work lead to no signs of the cause of the paralysis and lead us to no choice but to leave her at the vet till tomorrow.
Then the next day the worst happened, her condition had gotten worse and her back legs were paralyzed, we decided an MRI was the next best step. At this point I was completely heartbroken, I truly thought we would lose her. Then the MRI result came back and they found the cause of the paralysis. Nessie had a sudden herniated disc and immediate surgery would have to happen for her to have a chance at living, so of course, we decided surgery was the best option. That 3 - 4 hours later we get a call saying the surgery went well and she is currently sleeping in a pile of pillows.
Nessie's legs are still paralyzed at this current moment, but now she has a chance to recover and live out the rest of her doggy days.
Nessie is part of our family, she is the sweetest and kindest dog you will ever meet. She loves to sunbathe, hang out with her mom, and most importantly sleep. She never misses a chance to get a treat or pester us for attention. I love that dog and life without her is something that I couldn't imagine.
She's 11 years old, but she has always been a happy healthy dog, who has never had any major health complications until now. Everything has been so sudden and all I want right now is for her to be back sleeping in her doggy bed with the big grin she always has.
The fact is we still don't have her back and the medical bills are piling up fast. She has had bloodwork, x-rays, an MRI, spinal surgery, and multiple days spent at the vets. The total cost has been around $9,000 but has been worth it to give her a chance at making it through this.
The last week has been the most painful week of my life and any help would be appreciated, Thank you.
