NERO Ashlynn LARP
Hello, my name is David Cashel. Back in the mid 90's I met the very best friend I have ever had. John Finnegan ran a Live Action Roleplaying Game under the NERO banner in a land called Ashbury. During this time in my life, I was not well...physically or emotionally. John lead me out of the dark places in my brain, and the game itself, gave me a physical outlet that allowed me to lose weight, and become more confident in myself.
This story can be repeated by NERO players all across the country. LARP helps build social skills, physical fitness, creativity, and confidence. It offers escape from the everyday and allows you to "Be All That You Can't Be" in real life. In short, it will always do more than you can do for it.
Sadly, a few years ago, John passed away...this left a giant hole in my life. It was years before the pain washed away, and I could bring myself to play again. In doing so, the opportunity arose to grab the very same lands and history that he once ran. I didn't think twice...and neither did his other friends.
For those of you in the community, our story will be told by: Mike Manning, Jake McCarthy, Michelle McCarthy. Kerry Brooks, Matt Gilbert, Michael Carroll, Anna Galitzine, Mark Lee with contributions from several others within the LARPing community. All of these great people have brought their passions to the table, for this shared vision of what NERO can be.
Money raised on this gofundme will help our group fund camp deposits, insurance costs, and props for our first four events. With two booked for this fall, as well as two spring events in 2017. Our first two event dates are September 16, 17, 18 in Union CT and October 7, 8, 9 in Litchfield CT.
The opportunity to do John proud means the world to me. I know he is watching...smiling, at the efforts his friends are putting in.
I cannot thank those that are willing to support me enough. I will do my very best to offer a superior LARP for the players of the Northeast to enjoy. I hope each and every one of you calls this home, just like I once did.
