On New Year’s Day, the innocent lives of Thirty-three year old Nerissa Distin and her 2 year old baby girl Serena, were tragically taken unexpectedly. Nerissa was stabbed to death, then her home was set on fire claiming the young innocent life of Serena. Nerissa was born and raised in Negril, Jamaica. Nerissa migrated to the United States in 2004 in search of better opportunities. Nerissa made Columbus, Ohio her home away from home. Nerissa had a caring and nurturing spirit; which led her to earning a nursing degree. She had dreams of continuing her education with hopes of eventually becoming a Nurse Practitioner. Nerissa loved life, her family, and people all together. Nerissa continually placed the needs of other above her own. She spent a huge part of her life helping and comforting others. As she worked at Mount Carmel Rehabilitation Hospital as a Registered Nurse. Serena was the only daughter of Nerissa. She was a bubbly 2 years old that was full of life with an infectious laugh. She loved Peppa Pig, listening to music, and dancing her heart out. She hardly got a chance to experience life. Nerissa and Serena loved ones are left with the difficult task of returning them home to Nerissa’s birthplace of Negril, Jamaica; All the while struggling to secure the funds for their funeral expenses and the expenses of caring for Nerissa’s surviving child, Jayden, age 14. Nerissa and Serena’s family would like to have a ceremony in Columbus, Ohio, for their loved ones here that would like to pay their respects and celebrate the lives of Nerissa and Serena. Any contributions would be greatly appreciated, and all contributions would go to help with funeral expenses and the welfare of Nerissa son, Jayden.
