#NerfNationTogether against COVID-19 Globally

Tax deductible
UPDATE: In 3 weeks, the Nerf community has raised $362.45 CAD for COVID-19 relief around the world! I've also donated $200 myself, bringing our total to $562.45! Thank you all who've donated and shared this fundraiser <3

COVID-19 is causing destruction around the world, especially in places that may not immediately cross our minds. In countries riddled with conflict, disasters, and food insecurity, the novel coronavirus could have a devastating impact on societies where health systems are not prepared for a pandemic.

I’ve spent a great deal of time researching different charities and thinking of how I could use my online influence in a positive way. That led to the creation of the #NerfNationTogether campaign. Being in the Nerf hobby for 9 years has shown me that the Nerf and blaster community is creative, passionate, and willing to help others. We may be isolated, but we can still band together to do some good.

Goal: Raise at least $1000 in 3 weeks (by May 14th) for World Vision Canada, an organization providing COVID-19 relief around the world.

Here’s how you can help in 3 steps.

Step 1: Donate!

Step 2: Take a photo of your favorite Nerf blaster + piece of paper with #NerfNationTogether written on it (or use a free-to-use photo instead, the link is below).

Step 3: Post the photo on social media. In the description, use the hashtag #NerfNationTogether and tag 3 other people to encourage them to participate in the campaign.

Here’s an example of what you can post in your #NerfNationTogether photo:

I’m participating in #NerfNationTogether , a campaign rallying up the Nerf community to raise money for the most vulnerable and frontline workers during the COVID-19 pandemic! @person1, @person2, @person3, I challenge you to participate in the #NerfNationTogether campaign - here’s how it works!

1. Donate by going to the GoFundMe page:
2. Take a photo of your favorite Nerf blaster and a piece of paper with the writing #NerfNationTogether beside it (or use the stock photos from the GoFundMe page)
3. Post the photo on social media, and in the description use the hashtag #NerfNationTogether and tag 3 other people to encourage them to participate
Please spread the word of this campaign, we’re aiming for at least $1000 raised to help those most affected by COVID-19. Stay safe and stay positive!

Q: How much of your money is going toward the cause?

A: The GoFundMe Platform takes 0%, but transaction fees include 2.9% + $0.30 per donation. The rest of the proceeds all go toward World Vision Canada - I do not personally take any of the donations. Based on a 5-year average of World Vision Canada’s annual statement of total expenditures, 80.4% of donations go toward the programs, with 13.5% and 6.1% going toward Fundraising and Administration respectively. https://www.worldvision.ca/about-us/financial-accountability

Q: How reputable is World Vision Canada?

A: According to Charity Intelligence, they receive a 4/4 rating, notably for being very financially transparent and getting an A for reporting of their work and the results they achieve. https://www.charityintelligence.ca/charity-details/33-world-vision-canada
