Nepantla Student Exhibition Fund
Hi everyone!
My name is Lucía Ortiz, and I am an undergraduate student from Mexico City studying in Savannah College of Art and Design. I am majoring in Illustration and minoring in Printmaking and Art History. As my senior thesis, I am curating a multimedia group exhibition this June. The show will center on immigration, identity, displacement, and diversity- subjects that are globally pertinent at this particular point in time.

I have independently secured the Welmont Gallery, a sizeable and beautiful space to showcase work in Savannah, GA. The opening will be held during Art March, a monthly evening of art openings and events in Savannah. One of the objectives of this exhibition is to promote my peers, which is why I have not required an application fee. In addition, I have asked the applicants to provide a short description of themselves and their work, along with their contact information and websites. These will be available to the public, and any purchasing desires must be addressed to the artists directly, as the work will not be available for sale during the exhibition. In an effort to be inclusive to all SCAD students, I have financed the exhibition on my own, and hope to make back as much as I can, with your help of course!
Expenses Include:
Renting the space – $1400
Printing out posters and postcards – $200
Food and beverage for opening – $200
The project was born last fall, when I started creating work that addressed the subject matter of this exhibition. I became so involved in the research and development that it seemed a natural step to expand my work by creating an exhibition and inviting my peers to join me. The social nature of the work calls for a collaborative demonstration of my generation's collective mindset.
This project is the culmination of my undergraduate studies, and I am incredibly excited to see it all come together. Please help me finish my degree with a bang!
