Nepal, un ponte per l'istruzione: fai sognare questa scuola

Ciao, siamo Stefano Cariello e Stefano La Torre, e oggi vogliamo parlarvi della Superb Catalyst Academy, un luogo dove l'educazione può cambiare vite.

Colui che scrive è Stefano Cariello: fino a pochi mesi fa, lavoravo a Milano e avevo tutto ciò di cui avevo bisogno, ma non ero felice. Ho deciso di mischiare le carte della mia vita, ascoltando il mio istinto e chiedendomi "perché non posso essere io?", così ho realizzato questo sogno, cercando me stesso in un modo completamente nuovo: viaggiando 4 mesi per il Nepal e l'Asia e svolgendo volontariato alla Superb Catalyst Academy. Con me, il mio amico e ciclo-viaggiatore Stefano La Torre, con il quale da Foggia ci siamo trovati in Nepal casualmente nello stesso periodo, e così un po' per caso ci siamo anche innamorati del progetto della Superb Catalyst Academy.

Nel fare ciò, abbiamo avuto il privilegio di essere accolti e ospitati dal preside della scuola Ajay Kumar e dalla sua famiglia, facendoci sentire parte della loro vita con una generosità ed una naturalezza fuori dal comune.

Situata a Khanikhola, a soli 25 km da Kathmandu, in Nepal, la scuola offre istruzione gratuita ai bambini della comunità, con particolare attenzione a quelli che vivono in situazioni di grave difficoltà e marginalità. Ospita attualmente oltre 60 bambini dai 6 ai 14 anni, un numero drasticamente ridotto rispetto al periodo pre-pandemia, quando la scuola accoglieva più di 300 studenti, includendo quelli delle comunità vicine.

Da 17 anni, Ajay, il preside della scuola, non solo guida con passione questo progetto, ma apre anche la sua casa a volontari provenienti da tutto il mondo. La scuola così diventa un luogo multiculturale, in cui gli studenti non si limitano a studiare le materie di base ma ricevono stimoli diversificati, autentici e sempre nuovi.

Questa esperienza, semplicemente, ci ha toccato e fatto sentire parte di una comunità come non accadeva da tempo. Vedere la spontaneità di questi bambini ci ha ricordato come la vita andrebbe vissuta, e poiché loro mi hanno regalato questo, vorremmo fare la mia parte garantendo loro l'educazione che meritano.

La Superb Catalyst Academy sta affrontando un periodo di scarsità economica, complice la difficile ripresa post-covid, e i prossimi mesi sono fondamentali per la sua sopravvivenza!

Hello, we are Stefano Cariello and Stefano La Torre, and today we want to talk to you about the Superb Catalyst Academy, a place where education has the power to change lives.

This is Stefano Cariello speaking: until a few months ago, I was working in Milan, with everything I thought I needed, yet I wasn’t happy. I decided to shuffle the deck of my life, follow my instincts, and ask myself, “Why can’t it be me?” So, I made a bold move to chase my dream, embarking on a journey of self-discovery in an entirely new way: traveling for four months across Nepal and Asia while volunteering at the Superb Catalyst Academy.

Joining me in this adventure is my friend and cycling enthusiast Stefano La Torre. Coincidentally, we both found ourselves in Nepal at the same time, coming all the way from Foggia. Fate brought us together, and we fell in love with the vision of the Superb Catalyst Academy.

While volunteering, we were warmly welcomed by the school’s principal, Ajay Kumar, and his family, who made us feel like part of their lives with an extraordinary sense of generosity and openness.

Located in Khanikhola, just 25 km from Kathmandu, Nepal, the Superb Catalyst Academy offers free education to children in the community, with a special focus on those facing severe hardships and marginalization. Currently, the school supports over 60 children aged 6 to 14—far fewer than the more than 300 students it hosted before the pandemic, when it served children from neighboring communities as well.

For 17 years, Ajay has passionately led this project, opening not only the school’s doors but also his home to volunteers from around the world. This has transformed the academy into a multicultural space where students not only study core subjects but also gain exposure to diverse, authentic, and ever-evolving experiences.

This journey has deeply touched us, making us feel part of a community in ways we hadn’t felt for a long time. The spontaneity and joy of these children reminded us of how life should be lived. In gratitude for what they’ve given us, we want to do our part to ensure they receive the education they deserve.

The Superb Catalyst Academy is currently facing severe financial challenges, partly due to the difficulties of post-pandemic recovery. The coming months will be critical for its survival.
