What happened?
Nepal earthquakes and several aftershocks have killed nearly 9,000 and injured more than 20,000 people, as well as flattened buildings, among them some of the country’s best known landmarks, and landslides emerge as new threat to lives.

Massive financial support is going to be needed if impoverished Nepal is to rebuild from the devastating earthquakes which are still continuing to shake the country.

Thousands of houses were destroyed across many districts of the country, with entire villages flattened, especially those near the epicenter.

Several of the churches in the Kathmandu valley were destroyed. As Saturday is the principal day of Christian worship in Nepal, 500 people are reported to have died in the collapses.

Several pagodas on Kathmandu Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, collapsed, as did the Dharahara tower, built in 1832; the collapse of the latter structure killed at least 180 people. Manakamana Temple in Gorkha was also destroyed.

What are the effects?
Disastrous events in very poor and politically paralyzed nations such as Nepal often become a long drawn out chain of events, in that one disaster feeds into another for years or even decades upon end.

The after effects from the earthquake have knock effects on a myriad seemingly unrelated aspects: human trafficking, labor cost and availability, rental and property cost burdens, urbanization, private and public debt burdens, mental health, politics, tourism, as well as disease and healthcare system damages, disasters that come with the monsoon season. It was reported that the survivors were preyed upon by human traffickers involved in supply of girls and women to the brothels of South Asia. The most affected were the poor communities who lost their homes.

Nepal, with a total Gross Domestic Product of USD$19.921 billion (according to a 2012 estimate),is one of Asia's poorest countries, and has little ability to fund a major reconstruction effort on its own. Even before the quake, the Asian Development Bank estimated that it would need to spend about four times more than it currently does annually on infrastructure through to 2020 to attract investment.

The earthquake caused about $2 billion in economic losses in the country, and only a fraction of the cost will be incurred by insurers.
When did this happen?
Timeline of events:
On April 25, 2015, the earthquake was initially reported as 7.5 Mw by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) before it was quickly upgraded to 7.8 Mw. Then, a major aftershock of magnitude 6.7 Mw occurred on April 26, 2015 in the same region. The aftershock caused fresh avalanches on Mount Everest and was felt in many places in northern India. Assuming that 25 April earthquake was the largest event in this seismic episode, Nepal could expect more than 30 aftershocks greater than magnitude 5 over the following month. As of 24 June 2015, 329 aftershocks had occurred with different epicenters and magnitudes equal to or above 4 Mw (out of which 47 aftershocks are equal to or above 5 Mw)and more than 20,000 aftershocks less than 4 Mw.
Then...
On May 12, 2015, a second major earthquake with a moment magnitude (Mw) of 7.3Mw.This earthquake occurred along the same fault as the original magnitude 7.8 earthquake of 25 April but further to the east. At least 117 died in Nepal as a result of the aftershock and about 2,500 were injured.
And now...
Since then, the people in Nepal have been suffering from such earthquakes every few days with the last one happening just six days ago (July 22, 2015) at a 4.0 magnitude. For more detailed reports and info see link here: http://earthquaketrack.com/p/nepal/recent.

Why should I donate?

Government and local people are not sufficient to uplift the victims from these dark days- this situation needs a global support! Also, many people are mistaken that Nepal has already suffered this earthquake in April/May but since then have been fine, but this is not correct! If you are currently living in Nepal, earthquakes have been occuring so often since the Gorkha Earthquake in April, with the last one happening just six days ago (July 22, 2015) at a 4.0 magnitude and many more in the past few months http://earthquaketrack.com/p/nepal/recent.
Families are scared to even sleep in their own homes in fear of collapses resulting in death or injuries. Thousands have been left hurt and homeless. Schools in affected districts were closed for almost 1 month including the capital of Kathmandu and very few of them will resume their classes. You will help make a big difference in the life of the innocent children whose education has been on halt due to the earthquake’s devastating impact. All in all, massive financial support is going to be needed if impoverished Nepal is to restore, renew, revive, and recover from the devastating earthquakes which are still continuing to shake the country.

How will my donation funds be disbursed?
Most importantly! Please continue reading to see how together we can help Nepal restore, renew, revive, and even recover.
#1- RESTORE.
The impoverished country is struggling to cope as hundreds of thousands of people were made homeless with entire villages flattened, across many districts of the country, and reconstruction is to start only after monsoon season. Thus, funds donated will be used to help repair, renovate, and rebuild homes for victims who have lost their homes in Kathmandu, Gorkha, and Lamjung districts in order to provide them with proper roofing, etc. especially for shelters that require immediate renovation.

#2- RENEW.
Many homes have been destroyed or have become inhabitable because of damage making it difficult for people to have a place to sleep or even a place to cook. Many people and families are camping outside not only because they have no home but also in the fear of another earthquake hitting the country which causes buildings/homes to collapse resulting in injury or death. Thus, funds will be used to provide temporary shelter and community partners will provide water, hot meals, snacks, clothing, and blankets in affected neighborhoods.

#3- REVIVE.
Not only is it important to restore homes, but also to restore life or consciousness to victims so they can have the strength and energy to focus on a positive future through the most important way- Education. Children are the future. Unfortunately, as result of the earthquake, many students, especially in the village areas, dropped out of school for the most part because they could no longer afford to. To encourage and support children who are the future of Nepal, funds will be used to distribute packets of needed school materials, including notebooks, pencils, pens, and, if enough raised, even laptops. Basic school supplies are difficult for families to afford even in the best of times, thus these supplies will help lift a financial burden from suffering families backs while making each child more likely to stay in school, excel, and have a better future.

*RECOVER.
Recovering is a big part of the healing process. Should we raise more than our goal number, we will fund a recovery program as we have partners/doctors in Nepal’s medical field and through this we will provide emergency medical aid to those in need such as ERV’s (emergency response vehicles) first-aid kits, and relief supplies. This is very important because earthquakes can and have been erupting so often that you never know when you need medical aid, whether it is mentally or physically. The health care volunteers will travel to disaster sites to help people cope physically while other workers who specialize in providing emotional support will help people cope. Due to the costs, this will need more funding and we hope to reach over our initially set goal amount in order to implement this amazing program.

All in all, once funds come in then updates will be added periodically as to which portions have been allocated where, along with pictures/videos to show progression. Thank you for taking your time to read this and we hope that together we can and will touch the hearts and lives of many who will be thankful for any and all donation. Remember, your donation inspires motivation!

We are located in Northern Virginia, home of a huge Nepalese community who all have family and friends in Nepal that have been hurt and hit by the devastating earthquakes and have expressed real, live issues the nation is currently facing. Our main aim is to find donors in the DMV area but anyone can be a donor. A list of upcoming events will be posted on here for those who live in the DC Metro area and wish to attend are welcome. A booth will be set up for relief donations.
