On 26th August, catastrophic flooding struck the Nepal–Tibet border, causing devastating loss of life and leaving many people missing.

Sadly, three guides who work closely with our EverTrek team in Nepal — Bal Kumar Tamang, Angchering Sherpa and Lopsang Sherpa — were caught up in the disaster and remain missing.

They were in an area hit by the most severe part of the flood, and there has now been more than 24 hours without any contact, phone signal or social media activity from them.

Given where they were and the scale of what happened, the situation is extremely serious, and their families are now facing the very real possibility that they may not come home.

For many of us at EverTrek, these aren’t simply names.

EverTrek is a UK-based adventure travel company specialising in guided trekking trips, and Nepal has been at the heart of what we do since the company began nearly 10 years ago.

We have worked closely with our established team in Kathmandu for many years to organise and deliver our treks throughout the Himalayas. The local guides are the people who welcome our customers to Nepal, guide them safely through the mountains and make these experiences possible.

Bal, Angchering and Lopsang are part of that wider guiding team and community. They have spent years guiding people through the Himalayas, and many EverTrekkers will have walked alongside them, shared meals and stories with them, and trusted them to keep them safe on some of the biggest adventures of their lives.

Our relationship with the team in Nepal goes far beyond arranging trips. These are people we know personally, work alongside regularly and care deeply about.

Their families are now dealing with unimaginable uncertainty while also facing the prospect of losing the income and financial security these guides provided.

That’s why we don’t want to wait before offering support.

We want to help ensure their families and children have some financial security in the weeks and months ahead, whatever the outcome of the ongoing search.

We are launching this fundraiser to provide direct financial support to the families and children of Bal, Angchering and Lopsang.

For each of these families, the guides are major — and, in some cases, primary — breadwinners. Their income supports their homes, their children and their everyday living costs.

The money raised will help with food, household expenses, children’s education and the other essential costs these families would ordinarily rely on the guides’ income to cover.

Funds donated through this fundraiser will be received by EverTrek and transferred to our long-standing Nepal team, based in Kathmandu. They are in direct contact with the families and will distribute the money to the households of Bal, Angchering and Lopsang according to their immediate needs.

EverTrek will not retain any portion of the money received. We will work closely with our Kathmandu team to make sure the funds reach the families they are intended to support and will provide updates to donors wherever possible.

These guides have spent years looking after people in the mountains.

Now we want to help look after the families they love.

If you’ve ever trekked with Bal, Angchering or Lopsang, met them in Nepal, or simply want to support the people behind the adventures we’re so fortunate to experience, please donate whatever you can.

Even a small contribution, multiplied across the EverTrek community, could make a meaningful difference to these families at a time when they need it most.

If you aren’t able to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser so we can reach as many people as possible.

We are all desperately hoping for positive news and the safe return of Bal, Angchering and Lopsang.

Until then, we want their families to know they are not facing this alone.

Thank you so much for your support.
