Nepal - Covid-19, financial help family Gurung

Background information:
Family Gurung is the family of the trekking guide Balkrishna who accompanied my friends and myself by taking just the best care you could imagine during our wonderful Nepal holiday in 2014. I met the family on various occasions in between and after my trekkings and I also spent the local dipawoli festival with them which was an amazing experience. Balkrishna unfortunately died of a brain tumor 1 1/2 years ago.

Job / family situation now:
Balkrishna‘s brothers Raju and Karan who are under normal circumstances both also trekking guides are looking after the whole family (11 persons, out of them 5 children) including Balkrishna’s widow and two children. The Covid-19 crisis and the therefore missing tourists have left them jobless. Family Gurung has been living in a provisional corrugated iron home in Kathmandu as the massive earthquake destructed their rental apartment 5 ½ years ago. The family had no alternative but to use all their savings originally intended to be used for a better housing situation over the past months. Raju by now feels of course more worried about how to feed his family than of any health Covid-19 effects.

Economical difficulties:
The job situation in Nepal is hopeless - there is no way to find an alternative job. Even under normal circumstances this is extremely difficult - under Covid-19 circumstances it's impossible. As opposed to our European employer / social systems, they receive no government help and income. Two Nepal experts that I have been in touch with confirmed that especially in the cites (e.g. Kathmandu) where families have no land (and therefore can't grow food themselves) the problem situation is serious.

How can we help?
While I know that of course many other people around the world are affected similarly, they are friends to me and I would like to try the little I can to help and support them.
Even small financial contributions will help them to cover their most urgent financial needs: Food, school fees for the children, arising health costs, rental fee for housing land...
Any help - however small - is bridging a time without income, without tourism and without job options and perspectives for them. Family Gurung highly appreciates any contributions to ease their situation.

Hintergrundinformationen:
Familie Gurung ist die Familie des Trekking Führers Balkrishna, welcher meine Freunde und mich während unseres wunderschönen Nepal-Urlaubs im Jahr 2014 bestens betreut hat. Ich habe die Familie bei verschiedenen Gelegenheiten zwischen und nach meinen Trekkings getroffen und ich habe auch das lokale Dipawoli-Fest mit ihnen verbracht - ein sehr spezielles Erlebnis.
Balkrishna ist leider vor 1 1/2 Jahren an einem Gehirntumor gestorben.

Momentane Arbeits- und Familiensituation:
Balkrishna‘s Brüder Raju und Karan, welche unter normalen Umständen beide auch Trekkingführer sind, sind der Ernährer der ganzen Familie (11 Personen, davon 5 Kinder). Auch Balkrishna’s Witwe und die zwei Kinder leben weiterhin im Familienverbund. Die Covid-19-Krise und die deswegen fehlenden Touristen haben sie arbeitslos gemacht. Familie Gurung lebt in einem provisorischen Wellblechhaus in Kathmandu da das schlimme Erdbeben vor 5 ½ Jahren ihre Mietwohnung zerstörte. Der Familie blieb in den letzten Monaten nichts anderes übrig, als ihre gesamten Ersparnisse, welche ursprünglich für eine bessere Wohnsituation gedacht waren, aufzubrauchen.
Raju hat inzwischen natürlich viel mehr Angst nicht mehr zu wissen, wie er seine Familie ernähren soll, als vor den eigentlichen gesundheitlichen Covid-19 Auswirkungen.

Wirtschaftliche Schwierigkeiten:
Die Jobsituation in Nepal ist hoffnungslos - es gibt keine Möglichkeit, eine alternative Arbeitsstelle zu finden. Selbst unter normalen Umständen wäre das extrem schwierig - aufkummuliert durch Covid-19 ist es unmöglich.
Im Gegensatz zu unseren europäischen Arbeitgeber- und Sozialsytemen erhalten sie keine staatliche Hilfe und kein Einkommen. Zwei Nepal-Experten, mit denen ich in Kontakt stand, bestätigten mir, dass besonders in den Städten (z.B. Kathmandu) wo die Familien kein eigenes Land besitzen (und daher keine eigenen Nahrungsmittel anbauen können) die Problemsituation gravierend ist.

Wie können wir helfen?
Obwohl ich weiss, dass natürlich viele andere Menschen auf der Welt ähnlich betroffen sind, sind diese Menschen Freunde und ich möchte versuchen, sie zu unterstützen.
Sogar kleine finanzielle Beiträge werden ihnen helfen, ihre dringendsten finanziellen Bedürfnisse zu decken: Lebensmittel, Schulgeld für die Kinder, anfallende Gesundheitskosten, Grundstücksmiete...
Jede Hilfe - und sei sie noch so klein - unterstützt sie in einer Zeit ohne Einkommen, ohne Tourismus, ohne Arbeitsmöglichkeiten und ohne Perspektiven. Familie Gurung freut sich über jeden Beitrag welcher zur Erleichterung ihrer Situation beiträgt.
