Nepal COVID Surge Medical Equipment-May-2021
Donation protected
Due to rampant spread of COVID virus in Nepal in April/May 2021, we need your your generosity in funding this project, sharing this project, and linking us to those that may be able to help.
In this project, Empower Nepal Foundation (ENF), a 501(c)(3) non-profit from St. Paul, Minnesota, USA is looking to fund the purchase of medical devices for phect Nepal's Kathmandu Model Hospital, a nonprofit (NGO). This Kathmandu hospital is currently serving 27 COVID patients as of 11-May-2021 and local infection rates are 50% positive tests, up for 10% a month ago. This hospital is turning away many patients. If you see the trajectory of Nepal's growth in cases versus India, we are in for a tough spring/summer. And this local variant is highly contagious.

There is some limited medical equipment available for immediate purchase and installation. Based on how much we can raise, we'd like to fund the following initiatives:

Unique characteristics about this fundraising:
- 100% of funds raised directly go to purchasing medical equipment
- Medical equipment will be disbursed
- We will only purchase equipment which is available immediately (i.e. within 1 week) and which has good potential for use in next 5-10 yrs
- As a donor, "you-pick". If you'd like, please specify if you'd like to fund a specific piece of equipment or would like to pool with friends/family on a piece of equipment. If you would like suggestions, please reach out.
- Items donated by ENF's efforts will be 'loaned' to Kathmandu Model Hospital for a 1-2 yr 'COVID surge' period (knowing that they have the capacity and capability to put it to great use in highly urban area). But after 1-2 years, the equipment will be transferred to permanently reside in smaller cities/villages of Nepal which have the capacity/capability to accept medical equipment. Also, some Kathmandu Model Hospital staff will help to train medical staff in rural areas in the hand-off process. Process will have oversight by ENF representative, Sudip Suvedi, a PMP since 2015 to ensure completion.
- If you/your family/friends are picking specific equipment, we will take your requests for which medical facility should eventually get the equipment
- Sharing information with America Nepal Medical Foundation (ANMF) and getting their high level review of our plans so that we're not directly overlapping in help that they are providing
- Oversight by ENF Board Member Sudip Suvedi & Kathmandu Model Hospital's Dr. Ganesh Dangal, a world-renowned doctor who has received over $200,000 in non-profit funding history for over 10 yrs across multiple projects including ENF and ANMF projects
We need any and all funds. We will take funds via multiple sources, including a check to Empower Nepal Foundation, a 501(c)(3) in USA.
Donors could remain fully anonymous. Or you could be recognized for their donation via a small placard/label on the medical equipment.
Photos and updates on the progress and actual end-placement/use will be shared at least monthly through 12/2021 and then a bi-annual update until durable medical equipment reaches medical facilities in the remote parts of Nepal.
