I am proud and excited to share with my family and friends that I have been accepted into the National Geographic Student Summer Program of 2017. I am planning to attend the Nepal Community Service trip
supervised by acclaimed National Geographic journalists and photographers. I will join other students from around the world for a 15-day trip to Nepal on a mission to provide community service to families affected by recent earthquakes. I will care for children while helping to rebuild their homes, harvest local produce, and teach English. I will delve into the history, geography, and culture of these amazing places - learing about village life at the base of the Himalayas and meditating at local monasteries.
My dream is to travel the world as a photojournalist and this would be the opportunity of a lifetime. I plan on using my experience with South Asian families and the emersion in a new culture to work on both my photography and journalism skills under the supervision of some of the most renowned photojournists. This experience offers the development of new independence and self-reliance. The expedition would be a journey I would never forget and its influence would be life-changing.
As a dance teacher at Armstrong School of Dance, and choreographer for Lansing Central School musicals, I have already saved $3,000 towards the overall goal of $7,000. Please help to make this amazing opportunity a reality for me. Your generous donation will help cover expenses like lodging, food, field trips, and airfare. Shopping is not allowed on this trip - it is strictly educational!
