Hi, my name is Steve. My wife and I have just been to The Gambia to surprise a friend. Whilst we were there, he took us to his old school.
their benefactor/sponsor passed away a while ago, and the headteacher has not been able to secure any sponsorship since.
As a result, the school has struggled to keep up with the repairs to the buildings, the supply of stationary and tools to aid the children’s learning.
I gave the headteacher £100 and he was flabbergasted. “This will sponsor all 198 children for 4 months!”
I left, vowing to do whatever I could to help maintain the buildings and improve the classroom environment for all of them.
The assembly room is falling apart, and needs replacing. Rotten wood timbers and rusted tin roof panels that hang down. There are no rugs or benches for the children to sit on. Only a hard concrete floor.
It hit me so hard, that I felt compelled to help them as much as I can.
I hope you feel that too.
All the children are so happy & welcoming, even with the little they have.
Inspirational….
