Replace Nelson's Guitar(s)

Donation protected
In 2012  Hurricane Sandy changed the lives of millions of people forever.  This fundraiser is for one person, who initially lost only material possessions—flooded basement, flooded car, ruined guitars and personal possessions.  Insurance paid to rebuild the house, to restore the car, but the guitars were not covered, a total loss.

Although only loss of material possessions, the guitars, for Nelson, I feel, represented much more.  It has been three years, and no luck on the replacement.  Three years without playing.  I am not a musician, but I can imagine the loss of a creative outlet, and the toll the passage of time takes when you cannot connect with and engage that creative part of your soul.

Nelson’s story is one of tens of thousands of peoples’ stories post-Sandy.  His is important to me because he’s been my friend and my coworker for over a decade.  Nelson is also a sailor, a mariner, a lover of the sea.  He, probably more than anyone I know, understands the sea’s awesome power, of which Sandy was a small example.  He might say something like “the sea is a cruel mistress” when referring to the fates of Sandy.

Well, I want to try to reverse the fates, and restore a portion of the soul which was lost to the sea back in 2012.  Maybe I am being a bit melodramatic, but think to yourselves, think about what this loss may have meant, and the possible impact it is having through to present day.

The collection of six (6) guitars was worth upwards of $20K+ with a rare factory second in there and the Ibanez Destroyer II, Phil Collen model (Def Leppard).  I cannot think these can be replicated, but certainly a decent Les Paul, Fender or Ibanez and an amp, with an accessory or two thrown in could be accomplished with the goal funding.

Disclaimer:  This is totally. 100% my idea.  Nelson has no knowledge of the project.  I was hoping this Christmas could be a bit more cheery for him.  Please do what you can; give if you can.  But please try to keep the surprise.  I am not sure how he’d take the effort—he’s much better at giving of himself to others, as he does week after week.

Thanks for looking and considering.
