From Nelson “Nelly” Halladay
For more than 30 years, I’ve had the honor of serving the people of Central New York as both a firefighter and EMT. I’ve spent my life helping others — answering the call in the middle of the night, standing beside families on their hardest days, and doing everything I could to make sure others were safe.
I’ve been proud to serve with Canastota as a lifetime member, North Chittenango, Durhamville, Verona, and Oneida Castle Fire Departments. I started my EMS career with Vineall & Greater Lenox Ambulance, volunteered at Central Oneida County Ambulance (COC), and continued my work part-time at Madison County EMS. It has truly been my life’s purpose and privilege.
Now, for the first time, I find myself asking the communities help. I’m facing a serious medical condition that has brought unexpected challenges. The costs of treatment, medications, and ongoing care have become overwhelming.
I’ve never been one to ask for much — but I’m learning that sometimes the strongest thing you can do is let others lend a hand. Every donation will go directly toward my medical bills, daily living expenses, and treatment costs.
This fundraiser has been set up and is being managed by my immediate family and legal representatives, to ensure everything is handled transparently and properly. 100% of what’s raised will go directly toward my care and needs.
I’m deeply grateful to everyone who’s stood beside me throughout the years — both in my EMS career and my personal life. Your kindness, generosity, and support mean more to me than I can ever express.
Thank you for helping me through this chapter and for proving, once again, what it means to be #NellyStrong.
