Hi all,
We appreciate you taking the time to read our page. Since March, our 4 year old mix, Nelly, started showing signs of GI distress. It would be a week of terrible messes (shoutout to borrowed carpet cleaners), a vet visit with meds, then repeat. Through multiple vet visits it was thought that perhaps Nelly 1) was reacting poorly to the food and treats we gave her 2) got into something gross in the woods 3) had an enzyme dificiency 4) developed pancreatitis and 5) something worse that we just didn't know. Based on her behaviors and training, she was never a dog to swallow things she shouldn't so it was left unchecked until mid-May. After not one, but two different x-rays with two different vets at two different facilities, there was a faint line noticed in Nelly's upper GI tract. She spent 4 days total in the hospital after not eating properly for weeks, being severely dehydrated, and vomitting. The last night of hospitilization is when Nelly underwent 4AM surgery to remove a (still unknown of what) plastic peice the size of a half-dollar in her duodenum. This finally could be the end of months of misery - for us waking up at all hours of the night to vomit and diarrhea, but most importantly for Nelly's well-being.
We love our Nervous Nelly and would do anything to help her out of that discomfort. For much of the time we blamed ourselves, even when we didn't know for what. Over the past two months, it was unexpected the mental and financial toll it would take on us and even our other dog, Rainger. It has been amazing the support we've gotten from family, friends, and even our jobs (letting us step away from work here and there to help Nelly). A lot of folks have asked what they can do for us specificially and so we decided to start this GoFundMe for anyone who would like to chip in to cover the astronomical costs of veterinary medicine. Anything raised would go straight into the loan and line of credit taken out to cover the bills. So far, we've started to sell some of our outdoor gear and adjust funds for upcoming life changes, but it is still daunting to try and cover it all.
Again, we appreciate everyone's thoughts sent our way - we have a beautiful community of people.
