My name is Nell Coonen-Korte and a year and a half ago my life turned upside down, I went from being super active in Special Olympics and participating in multiple sports, to now being in a rehab center relearning how to walk, and working on everyday things like writing and feeding myself. See a year and a half ago I was starting to struggle with my breathing I thought maybe asthma but inhalers were not working so my asthma doctor referred me to get a special type of breathing test done, well that test showed I had a rare condition called Subglottic Stenosis, which makes scare tissue build up in my airway, well I was told someone would call me to get me scheduled to see a specialist that would be able to help open my airway back up, well I waited and waited to hear something from the specialists office to get scheduled nobody ever called and I called them and they kept telling me someone is going to call me, 5 months went by and by the end of July I went to the ER and was told that my airway closed to the size of a straw and if I didn't have a trach put in I would be dead by morning, after the trach was put in I was sent home the next day recovering fine but 2 days later I went back to the ER with internal swelling and needed to be admitted to the hospital where I was in the hospital for a month and after that I was in and out of the hospital for surgeries and other health problems, I the end of November I was in the hospital and this time the hospital felt I should go to a rehab center to get stronger and recover well here I am still in the rehab center 8 months later with my medical bills building up, and to make matters worse, social security cut me a couple months ago and I am still working on getting that addressed so I have little money coming in to pay anything off. Any help you can give me I would greatly appreciate.
