Nellie Workman needs to get to Grad School!
Hello!
I'm Nellie Bly Workman! I'm a 36 year old transgender woman from the Midwest!
I spent most of my childhood obsessed with movies and art, and naturally that led me to going to film school. I graduated from DePaul University with a 3.7 GPA. During my last semester at DePaul I moved to Hollywood and became a script reader. After doing that for some time, I decided it would be best to get some on set experience. I've worked on dozens of low budget films as an Assistant Director or a Story Editor, while working as a Production Assistant on big budget films. And, for the last few years, I've been putting together a documentary. I'm happy to say it's in post production, nearing completion!
I have a lot of experience working in film at different levels and to be honest, I am very lucky. So now, my goal is to return to school so I can teach. I've got plenty to offer students, but I many places I have looked into teaching do require a masters degree.
I've been accepted at Governor's State and I'm ready to start the semester.
Here's the downside- I don't have enough financial aide to cover my stay. I've found a job that should help me make up the difference, but due to the distance between me and work, the schedule, and the toll it takes on my body, I am concerned that it may not be sustainable. Currently, I am dividing my time between far west and far south suburbs of Chicago while also moving my belongings from Milwaukee. I also have severe back problems that become harder to power through while at work.
I am looking for between 1000 and 1500 to cover the additional expenses so I can leave my current work and living situation to stay on campus and find sustainable work closer to my school and have more time to focus on my graduate studies.
