Hi I’m Sandra future Mother in Law to Neil
June 8th our lives changed forever. Neil had stomach flu for 2 days and then June 6th started feeling weird, his hands and feet were getting numb and cold. Saturday june 8th he went to the hospital as he couldn’t breathe properly and they knew something was wrong but didn’t know what to do because within a few hours of being at the hospital Neil had become completely paralized with extreamly high blood pressure not able to breath properly so they had my daughter drive him to Toronto Western. Within an hour of arriving he was sent to ICU and a couple hours later ( June 9th) they intubated him and put him in an induce coma. He has been diagnosed with a rare auto immune disorder called Guille Barre Syndrome. He received a Tracheonotomy on june 30th and finally awoke on June 9th ( his youngest sons birthday actually!) . Neil is doing lung therapy daily and physical therapy he will need months of recovery to regain his body motion and strength. My daughter is a trouper, they have 5 children at home and Neil has 2 kids from a previous relationship. Neil is the owner of an up and coming small business that is still in the beginning stages. My daughter Nicole is a stay at home mom with 2 of 5 of their children that are medically challenged. She has support from all her family but financially it’s a challenge. As neil was the main provider for their family the bills are already starting to stack up along with distance to the hospital being so far away it is 1.5 hours to 2.5 hours one way with the Toronto traffic the gas to the hospital each day ( $1000 per month) parking ( $25 per day) and the extra help needed for the children in such a stressful time such as summer camp and baby sitters, cleaning help, and easy meals for the family . It’s a lot and his business is at a stand still and painfully so won’t be making any money anytime soon. Summer is here and we have and will have so many extra things come up with all these extra costs to help ease the stress for not only Nicole but the children Anything you can help with would be greatly appreciated, this was such a surprise and has been such a challenge already and we are still in the very beginning stages as we have been told it could be 1 to 3 YEARS of recovery for Neil to be back to normal or his new version of.
