We have been asked to set this up Neil does feel cheeky but again we have been advised people want to help for that we are extremely thankful.
Neil had a hemorrhagic stroke in April 2021, he spent months in a coma and further months in a neurological rehabilitation. The whole year was spent 100miles from home between hospitals and rehab. Unfortunately it was in covid times which meant our children couldn't visit and visits were extremely short - this I feel had a part in the slow recovery post stroke. Thankfully once Neil got home in December 2021 he began making improvements. He learnt to swallow and got off the feeding pump then this year his feeding peg tube was removed we were told he wouldn't survive let alone learn to eat. He learnt to roll, sit, stand and is currently standing alone extremely well and still hoping to take steps! We have in the last year moved into an adapted home after Neil lived in the hospital bed in the living room for 2 years! Thankfully since moving he is continue to gain strength and do well - he is now enjoying getting out alone without depending on anyone.
The wheelchair he currently has is not meeting his needs now. Neil needed alot of support when he got the old chair it was created to support him strongly. Thankfully he can now lean forward he couldn't then, he is so much stronger and doesn't need quite the support. Now he can get out alone and is enjoying so but his chair is quite slow, it has no front / back lights or indicators, it struggles on alot of grounds. Living where we do it would be great if Neil could come when we go for walks on different grounds, on the beach, he needs to be seen when he's out at night with lights. The new chair he has tried is slightly faster making it easier for Neil to go where he wants to without me driving. It will be alot safer for him. Alongside this Neil doesn't need such a supportive chair and would feel far more confident in a less bulky chair.
Neil has done extremely well and continues to try so hard to achieve all he is achieving.
