Neil Poulton was not only my work colleague he was my mentor and mate. We have all been touched and saddened by Neil’s sudden passing that has left a hole in the organisation and the community.
As most of you are aware Neil was a lovable larrikin but a selfless family man with a heart of gold. Neil was the head trainer at Pakenham Football Club, a voluntary position which he was not only passionate about but a dedicated mentor to players and trainers alike.
Neil was also an avid photographer and loved nothing more than capturing so many special moments for everyone else during their special celebrations. He did this never for monetary value but more so to support the ones close to his heart. We all know Neil was a qualified electrician and even though he would make us wait months, and sometimes years, he would always be there to lend a helping hand.
Neil’s firefighting career started as a volunteer firefighter with Berwick Fire Brigade in 1992. He joined the staff ranks in 2002, commencing as a Firefighter at Doveton/Hallam before transferring to Dandenong in 2006. Neil was appointed as a Leading Firefighter at Dandenong in 2012 and transferred to Pakenham early in 2018. He was given a National Service Award in 2009 and recently awarded the Queens National Service Medal.
We thank Neil for his dedication and here is a link that MP Jordan Crugnale speaking in Parliament in honour of the inspiration Pakenham Leader….

And it got me thinking……One of the first conversations I ever had with Polly over 10 years ago how excited he was to take Anita on their first overseas trip to Hawaii to celebrate their 40th birthdays. For many reasons, they never made this trip. Over many years I would tag Neil on specials to Hawaii and send him passport applications and many other subtle hints and gentle persuasions.
Finally, after many years he was finally going to take the plunge and book that trip for his 50th birthday celebrations. Sadly, Neil will never make this trip but with our help we can make Neil’s dream come true.
This idea for the Go Fund Me page was instinctively thought of immediately after Neil’s passing as he and Anita were looking very forward to this trip of a lifetime. Now that people have had the chance to process Neil’s shock passing many friends and colleagues are wanting to know how they can support Anita and the children Ellen, Euan and Angus.
So please dig deep and let’s give Anita and the kids a fantastic family Hawaiian holiday in memory of Neil. Donate what you can because every dollar counts and if you can please share this link to get the word out in the organisation and community.
