It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of Neil Cope. Neil passed away in his home, on July 16, 2019. Neil was born on October 11, 1972 to Brian and Michele "Mickie" of Belle Vernon. Neil attended grade school at St. Sebastian before finishing at Belle Vernon Area.
Neil was an EMS for Rostraver/West Newton Emergency Services from 1990-2013. He worked for the Mon Valley Transit from 2013-2016 before transitioning to his latest occupation, as a Belle Vernon Area school bus driver, as well as a driver for Uber and Lyft.
It is no surprise to those in the community of North Belle Vernon that Neil was extremely involved with the North Belle Vernon Fire Department, Station 80. Neil held the title of 1st Lieutenant/Secretary/Treasurer. Per the fire department, Neil joined the fire department in 1993 for two years and then joined again in 2016. He quickly rose through the ranks and 2017 became 3rd Lieutenant. In July of 2018, he took over as Recording Secretary and Treasurer. In 2019, he took over as 1st Lieutenant. In addition to serving as a firefighter, Neil led the VFD's bingo, which takes place every Wednesday at 4:30.
When Neil wasn't preparing the upcoming bingo night, he enjoyed going to the casino, spending time with his grandchildren, cheering on his beloved Penguins, battling a bar-top poker machine or snagging some scratch offs, while enjoying a nice cold coke (from a can, of course).
In addition to his parents, and grandmother Betty Cope, Neil is survived by his wife of 23 years, Kimberly Cope and their three children Ryan, Brittany and Caitlin, his grandchildren Samantha, Sean, MacKenzie, Izabella, Xavier and Lilliana. His siblings Dan (Nicole) Cope and Christie Cope Thompson, his nephew Aiden Thompson, his niece Halley Cope and many aunts, uncles and cousins, also from the Mon Valley area.
Neil's family is asking that in lieu of flowers, to consider making a donation to this GoFundMe page, to assist Kim and the family with any outstanding funeral expenses.
