Hi my name is Dane and on Monday February 19, my housemates and I woke up to an explosion next door which sent broken glass flying into our bedrooms. While we evacuated safely and the outstanding Ann Arbor Fire Department prevented the fire from spreading to our home, we have been facing an increasing load of challenges after the fire. The coverage of the insurance of our rental company, the insurance next door, and our limited/lack of renters insurance is showing to be very limited, and the costs are racking up.
First, we ask that you consider donating to our neighbor Tom who has lost everything and needs everyone’s support.
We understand that we are not entitled to anything and are more or less at fault for not having renter’s insurance, but if you can understand our struggles and want to help, we would so greatly appreciate it.
All of our belongings are smoke damaged and we have needed to relocate ourselves and everything inside the house while the rental company’s cleaners deal with the house structure. We have had to throw out many of our belongings and food, had body damage to one car, spent money on junk hauling and cleaning supplies, lost wages to days off for moving, and so many more miscellaneous costs keep popping up. This is more than we could have ever expected or budgeted for.
