It’s no secret that it’s tough out there right now. On November 1, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will be halted due to the government shutdown.
Here's some context:
- 1.8 million New York City residents rely on SNAP to put food on the table.
- Approximately 560,000 of them are children.
- SNAP provides nearly 95 million meals each month in NYC alone.
Suspending monthly SNAP benefits has never happened before in the history of the U.S. With the impending SNAP suspension, food banks and pantries are already seeing a surge in demand.
I’m donating to NYC’s largest hunger relief organization, the Food Bank for NYC, and invite you to join me if you’re able. Food Bank for NYC is ramping up food support across its citywide network of 800+ food pantries and soup kitchens. The governor has issued emergency aid, but with layoffs, rising rent, and cold weather ahead, the need goes beyond this moment.
Every contribution – big or small – makes a real impact. Every $1 we donate provides up to 5 meals. The money raised here will go directly to the Food Bank for NYC.
