Help My Dogs Recover: Vet Bills After Neighbor's Dog Attack
Donation protected
Welp, for anyone who knows me, I'm not one to ask for help BUT, here we go...
On 11/14/24, I was taking my two pups out for a walk. We didn't get very far, not even off the bottom step of the porch before the neighbor's dog (a Malinois) came around the corner, unleashed, out of their yard, roaming the residential neighborhood free. Before I even had a chance to act, Lilian, my chubby 10-year-old sassy Chihuahua, was in the dog's mouth and he tried to run BACK to his own yard next door with her. Oakley, my very sweet, very dense but brave guy, slipped his leash and ran after them.
The dog dropped Lilian and turned on Oakley. I don't often use the word traumatized given the stuff I've dealt with in my 48 years, but the following minutes were traumatizing. Trying to get Lily safe and get Oakley away from the large dog that was now attacking him has been living in my head rent-free since it happened. The pictures are pretty unsettling but necessary to show the extent of the injuries and what I've been dealing with since it happened.
The neighbors, for their part, WERE told multiple times that their dog(s) *Yes, I said DOGS, they have two large breed dogs* could get out of their yard, and they continue to allow the dogs to go into the yard unsupervised. They are aware, as animal control is now involved (their dog has no updated rabies shots as a side note, shocking I know). They are aware as well of the damage. We reached out to offer a payment arrangement to cover the cost of the vet bills we've now paid out. Nothing. No contact, no usable phone number to reach them at, they don't answer their door when we knock, and even Animal Control can't get them to do their part.
I know funds are hard to come by these days, but since the attack, Lily has had TWO surgeries to correct the damage done and an ensuing infection (she can't catch a break). I find myself needing to ask for any help anyone can offer. These two dogs have been with me through some pretty crappy times, and I love them (most people who've met them do too). Any help is forever appreciated.
