Since the inception of the COVID-19 pandemic, our communities have been devastated by the economic impact of necessary stay-at-home orders. According to some reports, more than 36 million people filed for unemployment benefits during this time. Meanwhile, local restaurants are suffering and families are struggling to put food on the table. In our community alone here on the East Side, we've spoken with families who have suffered devastating loss due to Coronavirus, including the passing of family members and loss of jobs.
We appreciate any amount you can offer to help.
We have already partnered with two restaurants who have agreed to deliver meals themselves to our neighbors in the area. You can donate directly to those restaurants either by donating on venmo to @khiladi-khiladi of Khiladi NYC or @sarita-ekya of SMAC .
And for those families that live outside of the delivery zone, we want to make sure that they can get food as well. If you donate through this account, we will use that money to order meals via seamless, grubhub, or if available at the restaurant, over the phone, to be delivered instantly to families who live outside of the area of our restaurant partners. We will try to avoid using third-party vendors as much as possible, but the priority for this set of donations will be to make sure that food gets to families any way possible.
