My mother's favorite place in the world is Rome, Italy, even before she'd ever been there. Before her cancer recurred for the first time, my stepfather sold his precious scooter so they could afford to take a trip to Rome. It was everything she had dreamed it would be and much more. Since the trip, she has been learning to speak and cook Italian in an attempt to share the experience with her kids. Her cancer has remained persistent for the last three years, despite a myriad of treatments. Throughout all the hardship she still manages to contribute to her family, friends, and community. She currently holds the self-appointed title of She-Ra Princess of Power, and uses her secret identity to spread awareness at different MOCA events. She's never too tired to cook giant church meals, volunteer in schools, fix my favorite pants, or design a wedding dress for my stepsister, despite her daily chemo cocktail. My dream is to have the funds to fly my mother, my brother, my step-father and I to Rome for two weeks for her 55th birthday so she can share her favorite place in the world with her favorite people in the world.
Right now, we have been lucky enough to be granted $5000 from the Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance to cover airfare. These additional donations will go towards helping with car rental and lodging for the two week visit and make it possible to have the adventure of a lifetime in early July of 2015.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR LOVE AND SUPPORT!
