Nef, a Newcomer, is not only the kindest, most polite, upstanding, respectful young man we have ever met-- he is also brilliant academically, and athletically gifted. Nef swam in Mexico at the highest level, then journeyed to the States to compete nationally in his youth league. A few weekends before winter break 2017, Nef went to a competition in TN where he won first place in six different categories nationally for 13-16 year olds. He dreams of going to the Olympics as a teenager, and none of us doubt he will do it.
Over Christmas, Nef's 8th grade teachers helped him find a school and admissions office who could offer him the legal support, in our broken immigration system, he needs to make his academic and athletic goals achievable.
Ned was accepted to Rainbow Community School, where he will finish out the remainder of his 8th grade year. But, in order to fully be able to attend, Nef needs a tutor to work with him weekly for 9 hours (2 hrs/day). His family is currently unable to secure the funding to pay a tutor for this need.
On behalf of Nef, and his entire, incredible family, we ask that you please join us in raising the funds needed for this tutoring position!
We, as a community, have one week (until February 5th) to get the funds together.
This family and this student, as much as anyone, deserve the goodwill and welcoming that are truly what we (can) do to make this country great.
