Nef Espino and Homegrown Surfboards CA fires fund

This weeks fires near Santa Cruz, CA devastated the Davenport community, including completely destroying Nef Espino’s house, his surfboard shop, and his partner's home.

Everyone in the surf community, and Santa Cruz community at large knows Nef, or have at least heard tales of his legendary stoke for life. His own hands have shaped, laminated, sanded, and repaired an astounding amount of surfboards in the area, either under his own company 'Homegrown Surfboards', or in the many positions he's held in the local surfboard manufacturing industry.

Guys like Nef are key to the surf industry and sport, crushing the hundreds of unseen jobs that keep surfers in the water enjoying their passion, and mentoring the new generation of shapers in the boardmaking process. Despite their importance however, backyard shapers like Nef don't often share in the large insurance plans and financial backing that the big surf manufacturers do. An unforseen disaster can take everything, and sadly, this week's fires in California were no exception.

Nef's home, shop, partner's house, friends house, trailer, and endless boards and tools were all completely turned to ash.
