This month, Neelix, one half of my perfect bonded pair, was diagnosed with a very aggressive type of soft tissue cancer (soft tissue sarcoma). Emergency surgery was needed to remove the very fast growing mass in order to increase his chances of survival. We are currently feeling hopeful that the procedure was a success and that the tumor has a low chance of returning.

The surgery itself was a no-brainer. He’s only 6 and his brother, Tuvok, and I rely on his goofy, cuddly self every day as a source of joy and comfort. Neither of us could imagine losing him so soon.

However, this unexpected emergency put me in a very difficult financial position and has added much stress to the already nightmarish evil of cancer. It’s possible he may need additional care in the future but for now I just need to recover from bills and get back on my feet so I can be there for my boy.
