Therapy Needed and Not Covered by Insurance

Hi, my name is Vicki. Here's our story:

Following a stroke in 2018, my husband, Gordon Hanson, experienced temporary paralysis and underwent a long, arduous recovery process. He has shown incredible resilience, working diligently to regain his mobility, speech, and independence. With the help of various therapies and programs, he has made remarkable progress, but there remain ongoing challenges.

Gordon attends the Aphasia Center at Marianjoy Rehab, where he receives vital support for his language-related difficulties caused by Aphasia. He works hard to improve his cognitive functions, fostering meaningful communication, and even coaching a chess club for others with Aphasia. Very recently, we learned of a new opportunity that holds tremendous promise for his continued progress and recovery.

Northwestern Medicine/Marianjoy is launching its Intensive Comprehensive Aphasia Program (NM ICAP), a specialized therapy program aimed at maximizing neuroplasticity and enhancing skills for individuals with aphasia. The program requires a four-week commitment by Gordon attending therapy four hours a day, four days a week. The intensive sessions will include individual and group therapy, providing the focus and repetition necessary for significant breakthroughs.

Improved NEUROPLASTICITY (our favorite new word) doesn't come easy and it's not cheap! We are already stretched with medical expenses, home repairs after the flood, and everyday living costs. We need to raise the required $10,000 quickly to hold his spot and guarantee his participation.

Your support will make a huge difference towards Gordon's recovery. It will enable him to receive the intensive therapy needed to break through in his progress. We know this program will bring about significant and positive changes to Gordon's independence, communication abilities, employability and overall well-being. Yes, we still need two incomes to make ends meet.
