Need new Mac for font article and creative work.

Hello, my name is Kurt Lang, and I once again need to replace a Mac due to a lack of funding. If you're familiar with it, I maintain the article, Font Management in macOS.

Apple Silicon Macs have been out for a while now, but I have no way to test on these systems as the mini I have is Intel based. Per one recent example, it seems you can force a font that conflicts with a system font in Ventura and still have it appear in Pages, TextEdit and other Apple-created, but not third-party apps. This isn't possible on an Intel Mac and is just one example of the types of OS changes I can't discover for the article without a new computer.

The Intel minis also aren't likely to be supported by Apple much longer. That will end my ability to test new releases of macOS to keep the article updated.

The work just hasn't been good since the pandemic, and my older mini can no longer handle the software I need to do client work. Taking out a loan isn't feasible since that just adds more expense in interest for a computer that's already outside of our current budget.

Due to a large number of peripherals, I need a mini with 4 Thunderbolt ports, so only the highest-end version will suit my needs.

I have the bar set to $1,500 as I can make up the rest of the new computer cost with the sale of the older mini.

Edit, 2/19/2023: I recently sold some old software that was worth more than I thought it would be. That allowed me to lower the goal to $900.

Edit, 4/8/2023: And yet other older software went for more than I expected. I can now lower my goal to $500.

Final edit, 5/7/2023: More digging for other business equipment or software to sell has gathered the rest of the funds I need to purchase an M2 mini. As such, I've ended the ability to donate to this fund.

I do greatly and sincerely thank those who contributed. Without your help, I'd still be months away from being able to upgrade to a new Mac. My clients will be very happy to hear I'm finally going to catch up with them. :-)
