Hi, my name is Nathan. I'm living with an incomplete C3-C4 spinal cord injury due to being shot in 2002 when I was 12. The doctors told my family that I wouldn't be able to move anything from my neck down or be able to breathe without a ventilator. After spending three and a half month's in the hospital getting extensive therapy I regained some movement in my right arm and leg. I also regained control of my breathing. I no longer needed a ventilator. On December 6th I was discharged to go home. After being home for about a week realty set in that would no longer be able to do the things I love. I was a very active kid. I was always outside riding my bike and playing football. I'm a HUGE Chiefs fan too. I developed a lot of anger and depression because I felt like my life was over. While dealing with the transition from being able bodied to being completely wheelchair bound. Then later I was placed in a nursing home at age fourteen. Living in a nursing home at such a young age was really hard. I had nobody my age to connect with. On top of that I never knew who would be taking care each day due the high turnover rate. A lot of the people that came in also left. So it was hard to get a routine down. While living there I continued going to school as a Freshmen in high school. Five years later I graduated from Lawson High in 2008. But before I graduated I started doing research on a way for me to move out of the the nursing home. I was looking for assisted living. That way I could live in my own place but still get the care that I need to live my live my life to the fullest. In 2009 I moved out of the nursing home and joined an agency called Immacolata Manor but is now called Life Unlimited Inc. I live in an apartment called an ISL which stands for Independent-Supported-Living. I am currently getting a house built that fits my needs. I'm so excited. I've never had my own house before. Its suppose to be done by August. After my house is built I'll need to buy a lot of stuff for it. Now I'm asking for your help. Due to my injury I don't have a high income.
