I set this campaign up for my mom. She explains her situation below in her own words--
I lost my health insurance after the first of the year, and as a result, I have not been able to see a doctor since last fall--and as a result, I have not been able to get refills of the medications I normally take to treat both lupus and high blood pressure. Over the last month or so, my blood pressure has been running very high--today it was 235/124. I have been having some symptoms such as shortness of breath and swelling in my legs that indicate I should probably see a doctor very soon.
I called my family practitioner, and they want at least $400 or more to see me, due to the fact that I have not had any labs done in a long time, and they insist upon doing them. I can get a same day or next day appointment as soon as I have the money to pay for it, however. I don't want to go to the ER unless I absolutely have to--I don't know how I would afford it without insurance.
Also, I have had to miss some work because of this, since the shortness of breath and swelling in my legs is making it very difficult to do my job. So I am also trying to raise some money to help cover part of my lost wages during this time so I don't get behind on my bills. Getting behind on things such as rent and utilities is not an option, since I have kids living in the house, one of whom is severely autistic.
So I need to get this blood pressure down as soon as possible--my kids need for me to be able to work and provide for them.
