Swedish African Neurosurgery Collaboration (SANC)

The association aims to pursue non-profit activities in the form of supporting the development of advanced neurosurgical activities in Africa. Operations are conducted through a bilateral intraprofessional exchange in neurosurgery, neuroscience nursing and related activities between the members of the association and the association's partners in Africa.

We are now seeking funds to send a mobile CT-scanner graciously donated by Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gotheburg, Sweden to Edward Francis Small Teaching Hopsital in Banjul, The Gambia.

The business must be conducted as non-profit organization voluntary trips called "charity medical missions" at the invitation of the association's partners in Africa, but can also include receiving people from these collaboration partners at a Swedish neurosurgery clinic or course with the specific objective of developing neurosurgery operations in Africa.
The association can also mediate donations of new and used medical equipment and material from Swedish neurosurgery clinics or the association's partners to the association's partners in Africa.
The association addresses people of all ages, regardless of background, with special commitment for the purpose above. The association must actively work to counteract all forms of discrimination.
The Swedish Neurosurgical Society has contributed significantly to the formation of this association and will be a close collaborator with this association.

Background: Global burden of surgical disease
• 5 billion people lack access to affordable surgical care when needed
• Worst in low and lower middle income countries
• 143 million additional surgical procedures needed per year to save lives and prevent disability
• Of 313 million surgical procedures each year only 6% in poorest countries.
