Update:
Two days ago we were contacted by the family of a 15 year old Iraqi refugee. Him and his family are very motivated to provide him the opportunity to attend our summer camp in Colorado this July. This is very short notice!!! We are so excited by the opportunity of another child attending our program, but we do not have the funds. We are trying to raise 3,000 dollars in two weeks. 2,000 for tuition, and 1,000 for travel and other expenses that are necessary for attending camp. Please share this with who you can! Our community has already shown such humbling and generous support for our efforts. We recognize that you have already done so much, but please consider assisting us in sending this final child to camp!
Thanks
How You Can Help

We currently have four, amazing, bright, dedicated children who want to attend our overnight debate and Model UN camp in Estes Park, Colorado. Some of these children have never left the Greater Hartford District. The chance to travel to a totally different part of the country, continue to hone a natural gift for advocacy, and work in a smaller setting with a larger teacher to camper ratio can be transformative in any student's academic and interpersonal career. It can also impact the trajectory of how they interact with the world at large.
Some of these students who are on the waiting list for scholarships were homeless last year, are in danger of being homeless next year, are Syrian refugees, or for whatever reason simply do not have the financial means to go.
To cover one student's tuition, material fees, and weekend activities for two weeks costs 4,000. We believe that raising these funds is doable. Every little bit helps. Please donate. In this current political climate, we are always talking about what we can do to help. I can't think of anything more appropriate then investing in students, and giving them the opportunity to learn skills that are integral to civil and civic discourse.

We have been lucky enough to have built a community that is constantly humbling us with their generosity, both through believing in our mission and through donating scholarships and providing tremendous opportunities for students who might otherwise not have access to them. Not only have we seen a tremendous benefit to these students, but also to our program as a whole. Diversity on every level and of every kind is a key component of why Westfield works.
Who We Are

Westfield Academy is a debate, public speaking, and Model UN organization that provides an educational home for students who are seeking to hone skills and explore nuanced ideas that are too often undervalued in this political climate.
Over the past twelve years, we have expanded from a class that met once a week in the founder's living room to a year-round program with class both during and after school as well as a summer camp attended by over 200 campers ages eight to eighteen during the course of five weeks.

Not that awards and 'objective' measures of success are our primary goal, but we won first place in the 2017 International Public Policy Forum, a worldwide written and oral competition involving hundreds of teams. We have also sent students to the World Individual Debate and Public Speaking Championship two consecutive years, and have swept the Yale Osterweis competition more than once.

What We Do

At our summer camp, students have the opportunity to debate and participate in Model United Nations. We also have a Distinguished Speaker Series, where an expert comes in and holds an hour long conversation on a theme. Past speakers have included Congresspeople, New York Times Bestselling authors, White House appointees from multiple administrations, artists and advocates, lawyers, lawmakers, judges and more.

In addition, our camp boasts an advocacy program that encourages self-directed learning. Students are provided with an advisee while they work on a project or proposal that deals through non-debate terms with an issue they are passionate about.
Our staff consists of Yale Ph.D. candidates, Harvard Law students, Harvard graduates from the early childhood education program, Cooper Union students, Hampshire alum, practicing attorneys, and dedicated teachers.
