Nedzad J Hurla: Don't Stop the Fight for His Life!
Donation protected
The start of 2019 for the Hurla family hasn’t been so great. They have been given news no family wants to ever receive. Our father, Nedzad Hurla aka (Jon), at just 66 years old was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.
Nedzad had been complaining of severe abdominal pain and we noticed his skin throughout his body was yellow. We knew immediately that it had to be Jaundice and something was terribly wrong. On December 21, 2019 he was rushed to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY, only to be told and misdiagnosed by their doctors that it was Gallstones and he was sent home
The family did not accept this diagnosis and he was immediately rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, N.Y. The emergency room doctor was confident that this was some sort of liver cancer due to his symptoms. After further testing, his bilirubin count was at a 20 and was slowly being poisoned by his liver. The cat scan showed that he had a 4 ½ centimeter tumor that was blocking the bile duct and liver. The specialist insured us that he does not have too long to live and there is no cure for this specific type of cancer.
A biopsy was performed and confirmed our family’s worst fear. The Oncologist determined that he has Cholangiocarcinoma, an extremely rare type of bile duct cancer. He underwent surgery to place two stents to help the liver drain the bile but was unsuccessful. They placed a catheter in the liver which was successful but will take weeks for the bilirubin count to come down to its normal levels.
After two weeks in Good Samaritan Hospital, he was released and we took him directly to Sloan Kettering Hospital, which has the nicest facility and the greatest doctors. They advised us that they can do chemo therapy but were not optimistic and did not see the need to do any surgery or consider a liver transplant, given his condition and how far along the cancer had progressed.
After feeling like there was no hope, we did extensive research and discovered there were doctors in Missouri and Arizona who have performed Liver transplants on people who have the same type of cancer and have saved so many lives.
In order to take the next step and bring him to the medical facilities in Missouri and Arizona we desperately need financial assistance. Medicare only covers 80% of Nedzad’s medical bills. Between the cost of travel, hotel expenses, and medical testing it seems impossible without any help.
We are raising money for Nedzad so he can get the right medical care he needs and deserves. A donation, no matter what size will make a huge difference. If you are unable to help, we need your prayers! With God’s will we know there is some hope and we will get through this difficult time.
Thank you so much for your generosity and God Bless!
