The Full Helping’s NEDA Campaign

National surveys estimate that 20 million women and 10 million men in America will have an eating disorder at some point in their lives. Longtime readers of my blog know that I’m one of them. Anorexia and orthorexia were a part of my life for thirteen years, and recovery wouldn’t have been possible without open dialog and the privilege of treatment options.

This year, as in past years, I’m greeting National Eating Disorder Awareness Week as an opportunity to give thanks for the recovery process and to raise awareness about the toll that eating disorders take on individuals, families, and our culture. The theme of NEDA week this year is “Let’s Get Real,” and the goal is to expand our collective dialog about eating disorders and how they show up in real life. This means challenging our preconceived ideas about how eating disorders might look or whom they impact, breaking through stigma, and being more radically honest than ever about the complexities and gifts of recovery.

Thanks to outdated stereotypes about eating disorders, many people who are suffering with food and body image never seek help. This week, please join me in sparking a compassionate conversation, extending love to those who in pain, and supporting the individuals who are working to make recovery a reality for everyone who needs it.

NEDA supports individuals and families affected by eating disorders. The organization serves as a vital catalyst for prevention, cures, and facilitating access to quality care. It would mean so much to me if you’d consider contributing to my campaign to support this organization’s efforts to raise awareness, bust myths, get people screened, and open the door to healing. Your contribution will help to keep NEDA’s hotlines, referral system, public resources, and legislative advocacy going. I’m deeply grateful in advance for anything you can share.
