On behalf of my brother, Sam and sister-in-law, Sarah:
On the 6th of June, 10 Family and Friends will be competing in Blenheim Triathlon and raising money for the John Radcliffe Neonatal Intensive Care Unit - An amazing and special team of people who cared for our Son, George, during a very challenging start.
We had no knowledge of George’s condition during pregnancy, until an anomaly was picked up during our 36 week scan. George was born 2 days later with TOF/OA, a rare condition affecting the anatomy of the airway and oesophagus. Born unable to swallow, George needed life saving surgery at 2 days old and spent his first 6 weeks of a 3 month hospital stay, under the care of the NICU team, supporting his every need, 24 hours a day as he recovered. Without NICU to support George (and us) we wouldn’t be in the position we are, with a thriving little boy!
NICU was not somewhere we had ever considered we would be, but during the most difficult and heartbreaking time of our lives, we knew George was in the best place possible. As new parents, we were given so much kindness and support which won’t ever be forgotten.
We’re raising this money to help the NICU team with whatever they may need, in the hope that parents and babies continue to receive the incredible level of care that in the toughest of times, we were lucky enough, and so grateful to receive.
